The booklet accompanying the DVDs contains an essay devoted to Konstanze’s ambivalence toward the Pasha (she truly loves him but can’t stand the idea) and his frustration at not being able to gain her true love. Subtitles are in English, Italian, Spanish, French German and Chinese. This is an opera DVD not to be missed, as it captures a historic performance that is nothing short of stunning. I would definitely rank this Don Giovanni in the top 5 best operas on DVD that I have seen. Mozart’s masterpiece is presented in a version shortened to 60 minutes for the youngest (from 5 years), young and also adult audiences, thus providing children with their first insight into the fascinating world of opera.
